TeXbrain compiles pdfTeX in the browser through WebAssembly: live preview, packages fetched when a document asks for them, and git integration. No account, no install, no server holding your document.

Two ways to write LaTeX until now: a local install that takes an afternoon and four gigabytes, or a hosted editor that owns your document.

This is the third. Packages pull on demand rather than shipping the whole distribution, which is what makes it plausible in a tab. Git integration means the version history is yours.

What people who use it say
