Storytailor
1 commentThe first launch from Storytailor

Storytailor creates personalized stories and characters for children ages 10 and under. Upload a drawing or photo of your child, and Storytailor makes them the main character in original stories you can read together or listen to. The platform includes Wonder Words vocabulary learning, off-screen activity suggestions tied to each story, and a growing library of tales. Stories are designed to be age-appropriate and engaging for young readers. The first two stories are free, then subscription plans are available. Built by JQ Sirls (CEO) and Herston Fails.

Most children's story apps are either generic tales with your kid's name pasted in, or AI slop with no editorial control. Storytailor's pitch is that the personalization goes past the name: upload a drawing, and they become the actual character in the story.
The Wonder Words vocabulary layer and the off-screen activities are what separate this from the other story generators. A story that teaches three new words and then gives you something to do away from the screen is a different product than a bedtime reader. I have not used it with a child yet. The first thing I would check is whether the stories hold a six-year-old's attention past the novelty of seeing their face.
