Lyzr OpenController
Open-source framework for agentic computer control
#2 of the day · 1 Oct 2026
Lyzr OpenController is an open-source framework for building agents that can control desktop applications and operating systems. It provides APIs for mouse movement, keyboard input, screen reading, and window management, with built-in safety controls to prevent unintended actions. Agents built on OpenController can interact with any GUI application, not just ones with APIs. Released by Lyzr as an open toolkit for researchers and developers working on agentic systems.

Computer control is the capability everyone wants and nobody trusts yet. Lyzr's approach is to make the primitives open so the safety layer is visible rather than proprietary.
What convinced me this is worth looking at is the safety controls being part of the core library, not an afterthought. An agent that can click anywhere needs guardrails built in, not bolted on. I have not run an agent through it on my own machine yet. The first thing I would check is whether the screen reading works reliably across different desktop environments, or whether it assumes macOS conventions.
