Developer toolkit for building and debugging web scrapers

hrefstack is a set of tools for developers who write web scrapers and crawlers. It includes a browser extension for inspecting page structure, a testing harness for running scraper logic against live and cached pages, and utilities for handling rate limits, retries, and anti-bot measures. The toolkit is aimed at the case where you are writing the scraper yourself in code, not configuring a no-code service. Built by Arsalan Amin.

Web scraping is either trivial or a nightmare, and the difference is usually whether the site actively resists bots. hrefstack is built for the nightmare case.

What caught my attention was the testing harness. Most scrapers break silently when the target site changes, and you only notice when the data pipeline downstream reports empty results. A tool that lets you replay the scraper against the old and new page structure side by side is the kind of thing you build yourself after the third incident. I have not run a production scraper through it yet. The first thing I would check is how it handles JavaScript-heavy sites where the DOM is assembled client-side.
